

Caruso, Enrico - Large Signed Caricature of YMCA Captain Horace Dunkle + Typed Letter Signed by Dunkle
Star Italian tenor (1873-1921), who was also an amateur caricaturist. Large 8.5 x 10.5 inch caricature made and signed by him, depicting Horace E. Dunkle, who worked for the YMCA and who was stationed in Italy during World War I - assigned to provide entertainment to the Italian Army. Caruso made an abbreviated signature (with his initials) at the bottom left. Small missing pieces of paper over the top and top left, but overall in good condition.
The circumstances by which the two met are explained in a one page typed signed letter written by Dunkle and dated in 1923 (see scans). This document is 8 x 9.25 inches, small creases and folds, otherwise in excellent condition. Not sold separately. Rare vintage item!
