Gieseking, Walter - Autograph Note Signed 1953
French-born German pianist (1895-1956), renowned for his subtle touch, pedaling, and dynamic control -particularly in the music of Debussy and Ravel.
Autograph note in French signed by him, dated 1953, plus a specimen of dried mountain flowers applied with tape on an album sheet, with a note in the hand of Lyda Fournier âPromenade en Engadin 1951â.
The French-born pianist was the son of a German doctor and lepidopterist, and himself had a collection of butterflies and moths. In this letter, which sounds as a dedication, Gieseking inscribes some tender words for the Fournierâs family : â...Je regrette dâĂȘtre incapable de mentir (dans ce cas particulier, au moins) puisque câest vraiment un trĂšs grand plaisir de rencontrer les chers amis Fournier â âŠâ. From the âAlbum amicorum of Lyda Fournier, wife of the cellist Pierre (1906-1986).
Size is 4.4 x 6.7 inches, 1 page, in very good condition.
