German opera composer (1791-1864) who has been described as perhaps the most successful stage composer of the XIX century. 

Autograph letter written in French (sold untranslated) inviting to a dinner with the famous explorer Alexander von Humboldt and writer Armand Bertin, signed by the composer.  Size is 5.1 x 7.8 inches, 1 page, folds, mounting traces on verso, minor stains, otherwise in very good condition.

ALSO INCLUDED is an unsigned carte-de-visite (CDV) with his portrait by Pierre Petit, Paris; minor damage on verso, otherwise in good condition.
