The old, original Metropolitan Opera House was located on Broadway and 40th street, where it stood between 1883 when it was inaugurated, and its demolition in early 1967. The company moved in 1966 to its larger and more modern location at the Lincoln Center in New York, where it still is.
According to our research, this curtain was used in the old house between 1903 and 1966. This is the largest piece of this curtain that we have ever seen.Â
