American tenor (1874-1952) who sang at the Metropolitan Opera from 1907-1915 and again from 1917-18 and in his time with the company created the lead tenor roles in three American operas: Walter Damrosch's Cyrano, Horatio Parker's Mona and Frederick Shepherd Converse's The Pipe of Desire. Also sang frequently in Chicago and elsewhere in the United States as well as in Europe.
