Kneisel, Franz - Signed Photo Kniesel Quartet
American violinist (1865-1926), founder in 1885 of a famous quartet (the "Kniesel Quartet"), a leading string ensemble in the United States in its time. Founded in Boston in 1885, the Kniesel Quartet moved its residence city to New York in 1903, and was finally dissolved in 1917.
Large photograph signed by all 4 members in the 1910s, including founder Franz Kniesel (1st violin, member from 1885 through 1917), Hans Letz (2nd violin, member 1912-1917), Louis Svecenski (viola, member 1887-1917) and Willem Willeke (cello, member 1907-1917).
Photo is inscribed to American pianist Harold Flammer (1889-1939), also composer of (mostly) vocal music and music publisher, dated in New York on May 20th, 1917.
Size is 12.2 x 10.3 inches, blind stamp by a photographer on the lower right corner (name illegible), minor stains on borders, repaired scratch across KneiselĀ“s abdomen (he is seated on the left), in very good condition.
This a large and amazing autograph photo of this quartet, the best we have ever seen so far.
