Polish-Lithuanian violinist and composer (1762-1848), as well as conductor, whose career developed mostly in England and Scotland, but earlier in other parts of Europe. Janiewicz (also spelled Yaniewicz) left 5 violin concertos and other violin pieces.
Autograph letter signed, dated by him in Bath, England, in 1822, in English,Ā about music and concerts, mentioning star soprano Angelica Catalani (1780-1849) - Janiewicz conducted concerts with her as soloist. Two pages written on both sides of one sheet 7.25 x 8.75 inches, page 3 is in blank, while page 4 has the addressee, a certain Mr Pearson, solicitor of Nottingham. A lacquered seal was removed from page 4 leaving a hole, otherwise complete and in very good condition. Very rare!Ā
