Wagner, Eva - Signed Book "Wagner - Der Deutscher" by Houston Stewart Chamberlain

Eva Wagner (also known as Eva Chamberlain Wagner) (1867-1942), was the daughter of Richard Wagner and Cosima von Bulow, and the wife of infamous writer Houston Stewart Chamberlain (1855-1927).

Book by her husband, signed and inscribed by her, dated by her in Bayreuth in June 1933. Book was a gift to a young clergyman and his new bride, listed as "Herr und Frau Turner", who were touring Europe for their honeymoon and visited Chamberlain“s library in Bayreuth.

Ewart E. Turner spent a total of ten years in Europe around the time of World War II. From 1930 to 1934, he served as pastor of the American Church in Berlin. He reported on conditions under Hitler, 1935-1939, was in Germany at the outbreak of war, and returned as a correspondent for the Religious News Service and theĀ Christian CenturyĀ after the war to cover the Nuremberg trials.

Signature and inscription are on the frontend page, in pencil, and are on the light side by still clearly visible. Book published in Germany, in German language, 137 pages, 4 x 6 inches, original dust jacket, hardcovers. Dust jacket has wear around the edges and some chipping at the upper and lower front fold of the spine and lower outside corner of the front panel, book is in excellent condition.
