In 1855, Ber was hired by the government to organize, on the initiative of Prince Napoleon, Napoleon III's first cousin, a large-scale concert in the Palais de l'Exposition for the day of the solemn distribution of awards. The concert was repeated for a paying audience on 16 and 24 November 1855.Â
