American baritone and actor (1903-1998), had a very successful career as a concert singer with over 2,000 performances in 56 countries. Particularly well known as Porgy in George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, a role he created in 1935 for a Broadway production. Duncan was Gershwin's personal choice for this role and ended up performing it over 1800 times.
